As proof that miracles happen, I finished something.
A present for a niece, by request. (You can find the pattern here.) I suspect that she would prefer something a great deal less subtle than these, but alas for her I was in the mood for grey. Slowly freezing to death will do that to a person.
For my own pair I decided on red, because if I am going to have to die of cold I may as well do so with flamboyance.
I believe that the rose would argue for a more graceful demise, and I would be the first to agree that her way of doing things is an astoundingly beautiful one.

oh, they are a great colour! love the grey. :)
how very snuggly.

The rose might die gracefully but has the disadvantage that she will never know the pleasure of wearing red moss stitch slippers.

Cold, eh? So remind me, did you move to a more extreme climate? Is there that much variations in New Zealand? Please educate an ugly american... Good thing you can knit!

Oh dear. Do I need to send some thermal long johns. They're quite snazzy now. I moved from Mudgee to the coast nealy six years ago now and long for a cold winter. I never really get out of T-shirts, even now. My first two winters on the coast, I didn't even have to don a jacket. I have gorgeous woollen coats hanging in my wardrobe, quite possibly dotted with mould spores. I am longing of feeling any icy wind bore through me, to wear layers and ridiculous beannies. I think your red socks/slippers are a great start. Striped long johns, a felted beannie, woollen shearer's shirt, gloves. You have so much to play with.

Those are GREAT! I love the fold-over cuffs. Knit on, flamboyant girl with red feet....knit on :-)...
You know, when we lived in Norway, we learned that chilly evenings are made warmer by some spiced wine....what do you think? Or, you could just go straight for the hot lemony whiskey. It's up to you. ;-)
