"...if the everyday is everything that is ignored by official forms of knowledge and authority, this very invisibility gives it the potential for strangeness, freedom, and even subversion."
- Michael Foley, 'Embracing the Ordinary'
My family attend church this morning without me, as they have done for most of the year, which is a hard thing to write and an even harder one to explain without offending many good people. My faith is what it has always been but I also think that, whatever we believe, whatever cause we have given ourselves to, we can hide our deepest feelings, our questions and doubts, our pain, our need, our responsibility, inside those official forms of knowledge and authority.
I know the rules and I'm not against the game. I just don't want to play it.
